Chill Bump is an English-speaking French-made rap duo from Tours. The band was formed in 2011.
Bankal, on the turntables, made a name for himself on the scratch battle scene (he won the French IDA Championship in 2010, and was also vice-champion for the DMC contest in 2010).
Miscellaneous, the band’s « voice » has been a member of French fusion band Fumuj since 2008, accumulating on-stage experience with each tour.
Thanks to a profusion of influences and round-the-clock inspiration, Chill Bump managed to put out no less than 4 EPs, releasing them online, free of charge.
The duo’s artistic quality caught the attention of Wax Tailor, who selected them amid 200 contestants to play the first part of his concerts at Paris’s mythical Olympia concert hall. C2C was also seduced by the quality of Chill Bump’s production, and invited them to play the first part of some of their shows during their Zenith tour.
Chill Bump asserts its independence and its musical authenticity and the respect of rap culture. The band’s “hand-made” aesthetic was supported by Le Mouv’ and Radio Nova, who chose to broadcast some of their songs, namely We Love Life – a collaboration with talented singer Biga Ranx.
The composition of Chill Bump’s music itself, and the band’s lyrics clearly belong to the rap movement, but the duo likes to contravene rap’s established codes and norms. The band is able to speak to an international audience thanks to the great variety of subjects evoked in the lyrics, and thanks to the use of English.
Chill Bump are currently working on their first album, and are on tour in France. They have been selected, along with five other budding bands to partake in the 2013 edition of the Prix Chorus competition.
