The 2010-formed duo is about to release their second album, Going Nowhere. 14 tracks, born of the contradictions of an era, and the numerous sources of influence that punctuate today’s hip-hop culture, from turntablism, carefully chiseled lyrics, to Bass Music. 

Thanks to the successes of their Eps and music videos, and followed by the release of their equally successful first album, Ego Trip, Chill Bump has managed to pin Tours, France – the group’s hometown – on the map of European hip-hop. The team, consisting of native English speaking MC, Miscellaneous, and renowned IDA and DMC turntablist, Bankal, has just wrapped up album number 2, entitled Going Nowhere. While the signature sound that characterized the group’s rap debut was organic and ardent, their auditory essence has evolved over time into a more transfused form with the accession of Trap Music. “Going Nowhere is a hybrid project”, beatmaker Bankal reveals. “Sampling and turntablism are obviously still highly influential in our work, but for this new endeavor we allowed ourselves a few misdemeanors.” With selective drum kicks, voice treatment and distortion techniques, it’s obvious that chill Bump still cherishes the East Coast classics and well-known Los Angeles beatmakers, but the group has also expressed an accrued appeal for electronic crescendos and elements from Atlanta and Houston’s hip-hop scenes.This album places a particularly strong emphasis on lyricism. Miscellaneous, who arrived in France at the peak of the country’s ‘rap music golden age’, imparts a biting, impulsive flow to the group. Going Nowhere tells the story of a society, of an era that is adrift. Blasé depicts all the contradictions of life in a system that we all hate, but upon which we all depend. “Going Nowhere is also a manifesto on the subject of our own condition, and that of the group”, comments the rapper. “Because we’re happy where we’re are.” The two homeboys are indeed where they are supposed to be; free to evolve according to their instincts, their desires, in their home studio, in Tours or on the road; they are DIY artists and producers, 100% in charge of their music.Going Nowhere, with its electronic upsurges and deep lyrics, represents this stance and the group’s choice of independence over the music industry and over today’s rap music business. A modern epic, infused with the realities of daily life.Shadows and light intermingle as the duo prepares to fire fourteen ballistic missiles from their launch pad in Tours. The release party for Going Nowhere will be held on October 12th at the Gaîté Lyrique in Paris, 3rd arrondissement.

D’EP’s en clips jusqu’à la sortie d’Ego Trip, leur premier album en 2014, Chill Bump est parvenu à épingler Tours – sa ville d’origine –, sur la carte du Hip hop européen. Composé de Miscellaneous, pur english native speaker MC, et de Bankal, platiniste célébré dans les championnats IDA et DMC, le binôme vient de mettre en boîte son second opus, Going Nowhere.Si les débuts du duo était frappés par le sceau d’un rap organique et chaud, les épreuves du temps, tout comme l’avènement de la Trap Music orientent désormais le groupe vers une matière sonore plus crossover : “Going Nowhere est un projet hybride” confie le beatmaker Bankal. “La culture du sample comme du turntablism influence toujours autant notre travail, mais pour ce nouvel effort, nous nous sommes autorisés des incartades plus contemporaines.”Kicks de batterie spécifiques, traitement et distorsion des voix... Si Chill Bump chérit toujours autant ses classiques East Coast comme les grands Beatmaker de Los Angeles, le combo ne cache pas son attrait pour les franches poussées Electro, ou les sonorités des scènes d’Atlanta et Houston.Sur ce nouvel album, il est plus que jamais question de lyricisme. Miscellaneous, arrivé en France en plein âge d’or du rap hexagonal, imprime au groupe un flow acéré, pulsionnel. Going Nowhere raconte l’histoire d’une société, d’une époque en pleine dérive. Le morceau Blasé dépeint précisément les contradictions à vivre dans un système que l’on déteste, et pourtant, dont chacun dépend.“Going Nowhere, c’est également un manifeste sur notre propre condition. Ainsi que celle du groupe” commente le rapper. “Parce que nous sommes bien où nous sommes.” Les deux homeboys sont effectivement où ils doivent être : libres d’évoluer, à l’instinct, à l’envie, en homestudio, à Tours ou sur la route, auteurs DIY et producteurs 100 % responsables de leur son.Tout en montées électroniques et en lyrics hors-sol, Going Nowhere raconte ce positionnement et ce choix de l’indépendance par rapport à l’industrie musicale, ainsi qu’au business du rap actuel. L’épopée moderne, croisée avec le réel du quotidien.
Entre ombre et lumière, le binôme s’apprête à lancer quatorze missiles balistiques au départ de leur maison-mère, Tours. La release party de Going Nowhere se tiendra le 12 octobre 2017 à la Gaîté Lyrique, Paris 3ème.
